NOOK: The Modern Toothbrush Holder that Combines Hygiene, Simplicity, and a Meaningful Mission

As a dentist and orthodontic specialist, I recommend the NOOK Toothbrush Holder because it stores your brush head-down so it drip-dries over the sink, keeps each brush separate and off the counter, and fits most manual and electric toothbrushes. It is made in New Jersey from recyclable polypropylene, and every purchase supports breast cancer research.

Your toothbrush does more than keep your teeth clean; it’s a direct line to your health, which makes how you store it surprisingly crucial. That’s where NOOK comes in, blending practicality with purpose.

Over the last several weeks, I’ve been personally using the NOOK toothbrush holder, and it has quickly become a mainstay at my bathroom sink. Its thoughtful design and hygienic features have elevated my oral care routine. My husband has started using it as well, and I’m planning to gift a few to friends and family. It’s just that good!

Designed by Brian Gellman, a New Jersey native, NOOK is not just another bathroom accessory. It’s a thoughtfully crafted, eco-friendly tool dedicated to honoring health, hygiene, and hope. Gellman donates proceeds to breast cancer research in memory of his mother, Barbara, who courageously battled cancer multiple times.

Why do most toothbrush holders harbor germs?

Most toothbrush holders trap water, residue, or other brushes against your bristles, which turns them into breeding grounds for bacteria. Here are four common storage styles that cause the problem, and how NOOK tackles each one.

1. The Crust-er: residue at the base of an electric toothbrush

That familiar crusty circle of toothpaste and water residue at the base of your electric toothbrush isn’t just unsightly. It stays damp and rarely gets cleaned. NOOK is designed with an open back that allows a hygienic drip-dry process, which keeps your toothbrush clean and crust-free.

2. The Cap-er: traditional toothbrush covers

Traditional toothbrush covers may seem helpful, but they trap moisture around the bristles. Studies have found more bacteria on capped or enclosed brushes than on ones left to air dry. NOOK’s design lets your toothbrush breathe, keeping it dry and free from harmful buildup.

3. The Sink-er: a toothbrush lying on the sink

Keeping your toothbrush on the sink feels convenient, but a brush lying by the sink sits in range of the spray from a toilet flush, especially when the lid is up. NOOK’s edge-mounted design holds your toothbrush securely off the sink, shielding it from those tiny invaders.

4. The Cup-er: several toothbrushes in one cup

In a shared cup, brush heads touch, and the American Dental Association advises keeping brushes separated to prevent cross-contamination. NOOK avoids this by holding each toothbrush separately, ensuring hygienic storage every time.

Is NOOK a sustainable toothbrush holder?

Yes. NOOK is manufactured locally in New Jersey using recyclable polypropylene and a BDP additive, an organic ingredient that attracts microbes in landfills, soil and oceans so they can break down the plastic.

As a dental professional, I recommend NOOK because it’s uniquely designed to support cleaner, healthier habits. Not only is it a more hygienic choice, it’s also a cost-effective, durable option. This commitment to sustainability is part of what makes NOOK a refreshingly conscientious choice.

How do you set up and use NOOK?

Setup takes four steps: attach the suction cup, mount it on the sink edge, place your toothbrush head-down, and close the cover. Here’s a quick guide:

  1. Attach the suction cup: Insert the top of the suction cup into the base, giving it a firm squeeze with your thumb and forefinger to secure it.
  2. Mount it on the sink edge: Position the suction cup at the edge of your sink and press down on the NOOK post to engage the suction. Make sure the back of the NOOK touches the side of the sink for stability.
  3. Place your toothbrush: Insert your manual or electric toothbrush head-down into the slot designed for it. For electric brushes, the head can be detached for drip-drying, keeping everything clean and easy to maintain.
  4. Close the cover: After placing your toothbrush, click the cover shut to keep everything protected yet airy.

NOOK is also designed with travel in mind, offering a secure and sanitary solution for your toothbrush on the go. Simply pack it up, and you’re good to go.

Does NOOK fit electric toothbrushes?

Yes. NOOK fits most manual and electric toothbrushes: manual brushes go in the back slot and electric brushes in the front slot.

Whether you’re a fan of manual brushes or prefer the power of electric ones, NOOK has you covered. That versatility makes it a reliable companion for every family member’s oral hygiene routine.

How does a NOOK purchase give back?

Every NOOK purchase helps support breast cancer research. NOOK’s creator, Brian Gellman, dedicated the product to his mother, Barbara, who bravely fought cancer for over 30 years.

As a health professional, I’m drawn to products that go beyond practicality and embody a mission of care. Barbara’s journey inspired Brian to give families everywhere the chance to hope for a future where no woman has to hear those devastating words. With each purchase, you turn everyday self-care into an act of support.

Why does a dentist recommend NOOK for every bathroom?

I recommend NOOK because it protects your toothbrush instead of just holding it, preventing the common storage issues that can compromise your health. It prioritizes cleanliness, sustainability, and convenience, all while supporting a mission that’s deeply meaningful.

From the bathroom to the travel bag, NOOK is a clean, compact, and truly considerate storage solution. As a dentist and orthodontist, I recommend NOOK as the toothbrush holder of choice. Experience how it protects your toothbrush, supports a healthier lifestyle, and lets you feel good about making a small difference with each use.
